Sophie’s imagination was captured by circus when she saw aerial artists from Skinning The Cat performing at the Bradford festival in 1991. She began her journey as a circus performer in 2002 when a chance meeting with that very company resulted in making her childhood fantasy, of becoming a trapeze artist, a reality. With the help of Becky Truman artistic director of Skinning the Cat, she co-founded the circus performance company Arabesque after attending the Zippo’s Academy of Circus Arts. Arabesque went on to tour the UK and Europe with their aerial shows and stilt characters.
Since then Sophie has been expanding her skills in both circus arts and creating theatre, which she studied for two years at The London International School of Performing Arts. In addition she trained in clown with Spymonkey, physical theatre at The Grotowski Institute in Poland and later with Song of the Goat theatre company.
The additional training in performance Sophie has done gives her an invaluable eye for creating theatrical performance and embodying character as well as performing acts with a high level of skill. She works with artists similarly trained to create beautifully designed work.
